Taste and use
Raw they are neutral, with a slightly astringent note from the skin. Roasted properly the kernels smell nutty and slip out of their skins; roasted dark they taste bitter.
About this product
Raw peanuts with the red skin on, unroasted and unsalted. The skin stays on during roasting and tints chaat and poha slightly red. They are used in tempering, as a roasted addition, and cooked with jaggery into chikki. If you need them without the skin, rub the roasted kernels between your hands.
