Why Indian Culture exists

Anyone searching for authentic South Asian groceries in Germany knows the problem. Most supermarkets put everything into an Asia-mix aisle where Thai curry paste sits next to Vietnamese soy sauce next to Chinese noodles. Indian brands rarely make it onto the shelf. And when they do, they are often Western-adapted versions, not what you know from home.

For the South Asian community in Germany this meant detours for years. Long drives to bigger cities. WhatsApp groups where friends bring each other Aashirvaad flour, MDH spices, or TRS lentils from their last trip. Those who don't know the scene give up at some point and cook with whatever the shelf offers.

We wanted to change that.

2023 — The Kapoor family founds Indian Culture

In 2023, Savin Kumar Kapoor founded Indian Culture. From Northern Germany, with one principle: only original brands from India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. No Asia-mix. No adapted imitations. No brands that sound like the original but taste different.

What we carry is what our own family has at home. TRS, MDH, Aashirvaad, Haldiram, Patak's, Shan, Everest, Daawat, and many more. The brands you find in every kitchen in India itself.

The family behind the shop

Indian Culture is family work from day one.

Savin Kumar Kapoor is the owner and runs the business. He decides which brands we carry, maintains relationships with our importers, and knows every product in the range personally.

Aryan Kapoor, his son, builds the digital side of the shop. Website, ordering, shipping logistics, everything that happens online.

Aryan's sister leads marketing and makes sure the right people hear about us.

And on holidays, our mother joins in. What she makes for Diwali, Holi or Eid, from Gulab Jamun to Barfi to Ladoo depending on the festival, we sell in limited batches through the shop. These sweets are made fresh from recipes she learned from her own mother and grandmother. They are not industrially produced. They are family cooking that would otherwise only sit on our own table.

What sets us apart

We believe that taste is memory. The smell of freshly roasted Garam Masala. The texture of real Atta flour. The sound of mustard seeds popping in hot ghee.

These memories cannot be replaced by imitations. Anyone raised in the South Asian diaspora can tell instantly whether a product is the original or a Western-adapted version. And anyone discovering Indian cuisine for the first time deserves to know it the way it really tastes.

That is what Indian Culture exists for.
