Taste and use
Earthy from the lentil flour, with the bitter note of fenugreek behind. The acidity in the finished stew comes from the tamarind, not from the blend. Chilli comes second: distinctly hot.
About this product
Spice blend for sambar, the South Indian lentil stew with tamarind and vegetables. Lentil flour and curry leaves appear in its ingredient list and in none of the other sixteen blends in this category. The pack states four teaspoons to 250 grams of toor dal and 250 grams of vegetables, plus 20 grams of soaked tamarind.
About MDH
MDH stands for Mahashian Di Hatti, the Gulati family spice shop from Sialkot, reopened in Delhi after partition in 1947. The company is based in Gurgaon today.
