Taste and use
Greener and stronger than the dehusked yellow form, with a slight bite from the skin. Cooked properly the halves are soft but still sit separately in the pot.
About this product
Halved mung beans with the green skin left on. Chilka means skin, and it makes the whole difference: the dal stays grainy rather than smooth and keeps its green note. It is cooked into dal and into a firmer khichdi. Split beans need no soaking, though it does shorten the time on the stove.
