Taste and use
Earthy with a faintly sour pull, stronger than moong and milder than chana. Cooked properly the dal is creamy but not entirely smooth; individual halves may still be visible.
About this product
Split and dehusked pigeon peas, matt yellow. Toor dal is the dal that goes into sambar in South India and into the sweet and sour dal of Gujarat; dal tadka is usually cooked with it too. Dehusked pulses need no soaking, though it does shorten the time on the stove. Toor dal is also sold oiled; this pack is not.
