Sambar

South Indian lentil and vegetable stew with tamarind

Also known as

Sambhar

Sambar is a South Indian stew of Toor Dal, mixed vegetables and tamarind, seasoned with Sambar Masala, a blend of roasted coriander, cumin, fennel, fenugreek and dried red chilis. Sambar is eaten daily in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala and is the classic accompaniment to Idli, Dosa, Vada and rice. Every family has its own Sambar recipe. We carry Sambar Masala and the lentils needed for home preparation.
